Want to feel as though you’ve disappeared into the pages of a Jane Austen novel (while still having every 21st-century luxury available to you)? Gitcombe House, which is close to the market town of Totnes, is sublime, its superlative Georgian proportions making us sigh in simple reflex at its sheer perfection. If spending your holidays having drinks on a manicured lawn, rustling up dinners in the Downton-worthy kitchen or dipping into your own pool (both indoor and outdoor) sound like your thing, then Gitcombe House is, surely, a contender.
