5 Tips For Hanging A Gallery Wall
Aim for a consistent gap between your frames of three to six inches, leaving more space if you are hanging larger pieces, and less if it is a collection of smaller frames.
A gallery wall that feels curated mixes a range of media, from framed photography to paintings, textiles and memorabilia. Use a consistent colour palette across all of your pieces to make it feel even more considered.
Once you have collected all the pieces you want to hang together, buy some inexpensive brown parcel paper and draw around each frame; writing clearly on it the name of the artwork. Now use low-tack masking tape to play around with the layout and order of your frames, without making any marks, or holes on your wall.
Once you are ready to hang, rub charcoal or chalk on the hanging hook on the back of your frame. Once you have held it in place, gently press the frame again the wall to mark where you need to place your nail.
When hanging a gallery wall, the most foolproof approach to take with placements is to hang the centre of each frame equally across one horizontal line. Even if you mix landscape and portrait frames, they will all still look in unison.
