Whether the heatwaves continue throughout the summer or we’re suddenly plunged into unseasonable weather, one thing is, by now, undeniably clear: the climate is changing, as evidenced by temperatures soaring to new highs of over 40C in the UK this year. In the immediate term, that means keeping our homes as temperate as possible, especially in the face of the effects of hot weather on vulnerable people and consequently on the NHS. There are many fans to choose from, but there’s no need to sweat it with our pick of the bunch. Oh, and needless to say, do ensure you keep hydrated when the mercury soars.

Number One Fan: 12 Fans To Keep Your Cool This Summer
As the sun blazes, these are the fans that will keep you and your home at a comfortable temperature.
Desk Fans
Many of us have left air-conditioned offices behind in the post pandemic world, at least for a few days a week. Still, it’s no reason to swelter at your desk. A good fan can even make a handsome addition to your desktop, all while keeping you blissfully cool.
Purifying Fans
When it comes to air purifying fans, no one does it quite like Dyson. The brand’s Cool Auto React Purifying Fan has three sensors working in harmony to constantly monitor your air quality and eradicate bacteria. The price tag is, however, hefty. The good news is that there are other models on the market which may not have the instant brand recognition but do come in at a fifth of the price.
Ceiling Fans
There is something nostalgic about the slow whir of a ceiling fan, taking us back to holidays past. Keep your cool with a steady breeze from above with one of these beauties – we’re especial fans of the ones that look like they’ve come direct from the propeller of a vintage aeroplane.
Hand-Held Fans
Sometimes you just want an old-school hand-held fan for some cooling relief on a hot day. They’re inexpensive and highly portable, not to mention decorative.
