Got expensive taste, but not the funds? Shopping for your home on a low budget used to be very tricky and fairly depressing. That was before fashion brands and supermarkets entered the interiors space, resulting in a great shift in low-cost, high-prestige design. Once you know where to look, you’ll discover on-trend homeware for a snip of the price you’d find elsewhere.
Here are six shops selling budget furniture that doesn’t look cheap.
Inexpensive Homeware For Savvy Design-Loving Shoppers
Not to show off, but you’d never guess the low price tags on this homeware.
Online Home Shop
Where can you find the cheapest hanging egg chair in 2024? Well, as your social media feeds might have already informed you, Online Home Shop is the place to start. In February this year, its foldable egg chair went viral due to its low cost. Priced at £119, this chair is a fraction of similar at Wilko, and 80 per cent cheaper than the hanging egg chair at John Lewis. And there’s plenty more bargains where that came from.
Dunelm
You’d be forgiven for mistaking Dunelm’s homeware for pricier alternatives by designer brands. This high street hero is chock-full of furniture and home décor that looks twice its price. Case in point is the Dunelm £45 retro-style cream toaster which looks suspiciously similar to the luxury Smeg toaster, which would set you back £130. Their ruffle duvet covers, jute rugs and bobbin mirrors are both pleasingly affordable and on-trend.
La Redoute
Fast becoming the go-to shop for interior editors, La Redoute sells design-led pieces at high street prices. While navigating its website takes some getting used to, the French firm sells some of the very best affordable furniture, lighting, mirrors and rugs. Search by their Small Price Range and keep an eye out for discount codes.
John Lewis ANYDAY
Most homeware at one-stop shop John Lewis is at a slightly higher price point than the average high street retailer. However, its affordable range ANYDAY includes stylish gems such as gingham cushions, cane side tables and boucle chairs, all without hefty price tags.
IKEA
Good deals and good design? Say no more. IKEA consistently raises the style stakes while staying committed to the more affordable end of the spectrum. Budget-friendly does not mean poor quality on the aisles of this Swedish superstore. This season, we’re big fans of the Swedish giant’s new Scandinavian folklore range and limited-edition lines.
Aldi
Budget supermarket Aldi warrants its reputation for interior dupes of well-known brands. Released every Thursday and Sunday, Aldi’s Specialbuys might include anything from berber-style rugs and scatter cushions to their infamous hanging cocoon chairs. Certain items can be pre-ordered online, but the best bet is to check an Aldi branch in person. There’s much hype surrounding the Decorative Garden Arch (£29.99) and gothic mirror (£7.99) that launches in store on 28 March.
