Her work is both inspired by nature and enduringly respectful of it. Having begun her career in food, it was all change when she settled into a new life in Devon, complete with half an acre of land; she immediately set about rewilding using no-dig methods, home composting and a low-impact approach. Now, with Create Academy, she has launched a four-hour course through which she imparts all that she has learned, from the practical to the aesthetic, demonstrating her approach to creating ‘forever flowers’ and walking us through how to grow, harvest and arrange long-lasting dried blooms, whether you intend to use them to decorate your home, a wedding or to create special gifts.
‘My dried floral arrangements are created with seasonality in mind and are always free of human intervention - no dying, bleaching or sprayed blooms - each designed as a reflection the natural world, offering the chance to bring nature into our spaces however big or small,’ says Bex. ‘I want this course to show how easy it can be to create with dried flowers - from the actual growing and harvesting to the arranging itself. Floral art is something that can be enjoyed at all ages and I’ve created different projects in this course to encourage new ways of thinking about how to display blooms that won’t be thrown out in a couple of weeks and can be enjoyed throughout the year.’
Perfect for deepening the knowledge of seasoned growers and for neophytes alike, the course is divided into digestible bite-sized chunks, showing each process in enough detail to instruct while also inspiring with its beauty.
