With only eight more little doors on our advent calendars left to go, we officially find ourselves in the home stretch to Christmas. Whether you finished your prep ages ago or, conversely, you’re only just starting now, seizing those moments to pause with a mince pie and a mulled wine are imperative amid the merry chaos. And, whilst taking such necessary breathers, we always find it meditative to have a good ogle at Christmas home inspiration, whether in magazines or online. Happily, Instagram reliably provides, giving us endless fodder for last-minute decorative additions and, simply, spreading good cheer through the beauty and bounty of the season. These are the Christmassy Instagram feeds that always hit the festive spot.

Little Mill Abergavenny

These white-washed holiday cottages, with their exquisite green windows, are set in a former Welsh stone mill on the River Gavenny. Renovated with restraint and rustic simplicity, their interiors are so very painterly that each tableau looks like it could have been immortalised by Vermeer. Dressed for Christmas, it is every bit as enchanting as one could possibly hope for.

Arthur Parkinson

The absolute delight that is Arthur Parkinson demonstrating that you don’t need to spend vast amounts of money on decorative foliage when foraged branches, lit up magically, do the job just as magically. We also love his tree alternative, as seen here.

Hill House Vintage

No list of Christmas house inspiration would be even close to completion without mention of Paula Sutton’s Hill House Vintage. As with all that she touches, there is a sense of sheer exuberant delight in her decorating – a joy that she has a knack of sharing generously with her followers. Who wouldn’t want to spend a cosy Christmas in her Norfolk Georgian pile?

Woolhouse Farm

This beautiful 17th-century farmhouse in the heart of the South Downs is all about celebrating the rhythms of rural life. Beauty in simplicity reigns here, and that goes for Christmas too. We love this gingerbread wreath and are already, of course, hatching plans to make our own.

Sean Anthony Pritchard

We love Sean Anthony Pritchard’s festive modus operandum, which is to deck every surface until it can be decked no more. Hunkering down in this exquisite cottage is, surely, the absolute Christmas dream.

Irene My Life

Irene Molodtsov’s feed is dedicated to documenting her life within the walls a 500-year-old Cotswold Manor House. Shots like this are testament to the fact that sometimes all you need is a roaring fire to get into the festive spirit (it does, though, help if your fireplace looks like this).

Charlie McCormick

Gardener Charlie McCormick puts on a Christmas fit for royalty, complete with Corgis symmetrically framing the fireplace and Staffordshire porcelain dogs looking haughtily on. As, of course, they must and should. Charlie, along with his partner, Ben Pentreath, have recently moved to Orkney to an 18th century house with a walled garden, Westness House. Keep an eye for developments, as Charlie brings magic to his new garden, as he did to the magnificent garden and home he has just left in Dorset.

Projeckityyny

It may be a shop rather than a house, but the Sherbourne home of this Nordic textiles brand is so inviting that we would happily move straight in. All here is comfort, joy and Christmas inspiration. Twinkling lights, cheerful red cushions, piled high quilts and large bows are, frankly, all we really need for the season of slouching – mince pie in hand.

Dennis Severs

At the Dennis Severs House in Spitalfields, the festive enchantment begins at the front door, sprinkling its magic before you even cross the threshold. Quite simply, nobody creates a more theatrical or festive tableau than the custodians here.

Amy Balfour

Despite having her hands full with no fewer than five children, decorative painter Amy Balfour still manages to put on quite the festive spread: note all five stockings hung up by the chimney with care.

My Mulberry House

Leah, of My Mulberry House, revelling in the splendour of Christmas, red dress donned, tree beribboned, and fireplace festooned.

Molly Mahon

Christmas with the queen of print and colour is a warm, inviting affair. Cups of coca all round please.

Mrs Trufflepig

We love how Genevieve – aka Mrs Trufflepig – places an onus on Christmas decorations slowly amassed over a lifetime, the ones that, year after year, become familiar old friends.

Quine & Loon

Another festive scene, another pair of Staffordshire dogs, this time guarding a set of Russian dolls, while cats dance above their heads. Gloriously maximal scenes at Rachel’s house, which happens to have been a finalist in Scotland’s Home of the Year 2024.

The Flint House

For a more restrained take on Christmas, The Flint House always delivers the goods, just like Santa himself. Atmospheric, inviting and so very warm.
