Forget the cheesy cards, the bunch of flowers – we can think of no better way to say “I love you” than with a really brilliant breakfast.
As Valentine’s Day is on a Tuesday this year, you might want to celebrate ahead on the weekend before, so with this in mind, we’ve picked out some easy (yet delicious) recipes to surprise your other half with when they wake up.
Now that’s what we call romantic.
Croissant Bread, Smoked Salmon and Egg by Symmetry Breakfast
When it comes to a beautiful breakfast for two, Symmetry Breakfast has it covered. This stunning Instagram account has 789k followers and features an array of knock-out breakfast dishes that will have him or her sighing into your bleary morning eyes. Try this croissant bread, smoked salmon, egg, lemon and pul biber chilli for starters.
Bread, Butter & Honey by The Little Library Café
One for the book worm in your life, The Little Library Café takes inspiration for its recipes from some of the literature’s best loved books. This perfectly simple dish of bread, butter and honey is taken from I Capture the Castle by Dodi Smith and we can think of few better ways to surprise your love on Valentine’s morning. As character Cassandra says: “I shouldn't think even millionaires could eat anything nicer than new bread and real butter and honey for tea.” (Or breakfast).
Baked Eggs with Ham & Tomato by Great British Chefs
Get up half an hour early and rustle up this baked egg recipe from the Galvin Brothers as a Valentine’s surprise. A step up from your regular boiled eggs, this is also a fun dish for kids, who can help assemble the pots before they go in the oven. Use heart-shaped ramekins for added romantic flourish.
Honey Nut Granola by Drizzle & Drip
Men-folk, if you can manage to rustle up this granola in advance, put it in a pretty jar, tie it with a pretty ribbon and serve with some good quality Greek yoghurt and a lovely jar of local honey – perhaps with a fresh vase of flowers on the table, your lady will be IMPRESSED. This recipe from Drizzle & Drip is a sure-fire winner. You’re welcome.
Pancakes by Mimi Thorisson
What could be more romantic than coming down to breakfast to find your beloved flipping pancakes? This recipe from Mimi Thorisson is inspired by the pancake scene in ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson and is an absolute winner.
