I first discovered the Danish brand Sissel Edelbo while looking for Christmas decorations and stumbled across their incredibly decorative and handcrafted pieces. Founded by two childhood friends Jeanne Sissel Thomsen and Christina Edelbo in 2004, responsible fashion has been their cornerstone.

Sissel Edelbo focuses on recycling materials and promoting a responsible production process, giving each piece unique materials, prints and patterns, a distinctive character and history.

Known for their patterned jackets and kimonos these are so easy to wear with jeans or over a dress.

Always actively seeking new responsible materials and processes, they work with leftover materials – called 'deadstock' from suppliers, and transform excess materials.

Wreath

Back to Christmas, ‘Wreath Kantha Ornament’ is made from leftover kantha blankets, and it is beautifully decorated with sequins and a small bell.

The Alphabet letters are a wonderful gift for family and friends to be treasured and hung on the Christmas tree year after year.

Alphabet Tag

My favourite are these Countdown to Christmas Eve lights, made from upcycled crepe silk sari and the Double Sausage is a little fun.

Other collections include kids, Silk Scarves in many many patterns and these amazing Vintage Suzani Blankets produced using Kantha, a centuries-old traditional embroidery technique popular among Indian women. Breathing new life into old cotton or silk saris. The material is layered and stitched together by hand, before the kantha embroidery begins - uniform, visible stitches, meticulously sewn in straight lines or decorative patterns.

The founders have a close collaboration with their permanent suppliers in India, whom they typically visit three to four times a year - to nurture the relationship and contribute to the well-being of employees.
