Outerwear has been one category in steady demand through this winter season lockdown. Dressing appropriately for our daily exercise, dog walking and meeting our one friend in the park has seen sales for coats soar.
This is lucky for Georgia Dant, who after 15 years designing menswear and womenswear at luxury design houses in London and New York, launched MARFA STANCE in 2019.
With a passion for utility clothing, she has created a collection for a modern woman’s lifestyle. Named in celebration of Marfa, a West Texan town and home of the late Minimalist artist Donald Judd, the goal is for pieces to evolve from season to season with uniquely buildable elements available.
The coats range in style from Parka, Trench, and Shearling, with some being reversible but it is her Quilts that have been gaining most attention.
With a belief in versatile, and timeless pieces, rather than one season items we get bored of, a creative Build Your Own tool enables customers to choose a base coat and add a choice of collar, hood and liner.
The collection is exclusively crafted in Italy with all fabrics being recycled, stock or dead-stock fabrics in limited quantities that already exist, or are certified sustainable qualities originating from Italy and Japan. The shearling is biodegradable and all padding is 100% recycled, with the nylon and polyester coming from deadstock fabrics. All their packaging is recycled and most of the raw materials are shipped by boat wherever possible between factories.
The prices aim to reflect both the exceptional Italian craftsmanship and the intention for cherished, considered purchases. Lifelong wear, for many many years post lockdown.
