As a child, the Australian-born Donald Edge travelled extensively throughout Europe with his parents, an experience which peaked his interest in history, antique jewellery, and design.
After settling in London in the mid-eighties he followed his passion, studying antique jewellery on Bond Street. His first wholesale and retail space was in Antiquarius on Chelsea’s King’s Road, then Donald moved into private sales where he surrounded himself with a team of extraordinary craftspeople, working on one-of-a-kind pieces.
Now based in Mayfair, he developed the CODE by Donald Edge collection, a bespoke jewellery brand inspired by semiotics, love, and the mysteries of life, to meet a growing demand for personalised pieces with symbolic meaning.
Committed to ethical practices, the brand partners with family-owned workshops in England and Italy. Each codebyEdge piece is handcrafted by artisans at a Laboratori de Famiglia just outside Milan.
Inspired by the 18th and 19th century tradition of acrostic jewellery that conveyed hidden messages through gemstones, the designer offers clients the opportunity to customise their jewellery with secret messages in Morse or binary code.
Using only lab-grown diamonds, gemstones and noble metals in 18kt yellow, white & rose gold or 925 sterling silver, diamonds are grown by scientists using a process that mimics natural diamond formation under the Earth’s crust. Donald feels that launching a product that doesn’t deplete the environment and has transparent supply chains is his most exciting challenge to date.
The British jeweller’s newest launch is the release of their Sade hoops earrings.
Originally commissioned by British singer-songwriter Sade for her 2011 tour, this timely re-launch coincides with Sade's first new music released since 2018.
With wearer comfort as priority and a decade of innovation, the new titanium hoops are 70% lighter and believed to be the world’s lightest weight diamond hoop earrings. Clients can fully customise size, metal (recycled gold, platinum, or titanium), and gemstone type, including natural, lab-grown diamonds, or coloured gemstones.
