Carmen Borgonovo and Joana de Noronha are fashion industry veterans who founded Borgo de Nor, a London-based fashion brand in 2017 and keep putting their experience to good use. Introducing its first philanthropic project this month: B. Cool B. Kind, fifty-percent of capsule collection proceeds will support young girls in El Salvador.
Taking direction from a series of strong, confident iconic women (Frida Kahlo, Leonora Carrington and Hilma af Klint, to name but a few) the free-spirited and eclectic brand create striking floral slips, gathered midi dresses and bright pyjama styles in surreal patterns and an unrestrained use of bold colour.
The name of the brand comes from the designers two last names Borgonovo and de Norohna. Uplifting, empowering, feminine and timeless, Borgo De Nor was born of a mutual desire for the feel-good dresses reminiscent of its co-founder’s eclectic backgrounds — from El Salvador and Rio de Janeiro to Miami and Portugal.
The B.Cool B. Kind project is in collaboration with Borgonovo-Pohl, the Borgonovo family-owned coffee processing company and Glasswing International, an innovative local non-profit organisation.
Believing that, when given the opportunity, girls can lift their families and communities out of poverty, Borgo de Nor have designed three t-shirts that evoke inspirational messages of positivity, kindness, and strength.
Sales from the t-shirt capsule collection will be donated to the Girls Club program at Escuela Talnique in El Salvador, which is amongst the top 10 countries with the highest rate of violence against females in the world (UN Women).
Escuela Talnique provides free education and a safe space for all children in an area where civil violence and poverty make it difficult for them to afford or attend school. Funds raised will be used for educational material, supplies for entrepreneurship training for the girls as well as mentoring sessions.
Priced at £170, the capsule collection features 3 t-shirt designs in black or white featuring uplifting messages and 70’s inspired colourful prints.
