Proportions and fabrics are everything. Playing with oversized blazers over cropped styles and the sharper lines of tailoring over jeans and tees will immediately banish any school uniform memories and give your spring wardrobe a trend update. While wool or tweed can feel smarter, look for relaxed linens or even denims for an unexpectedly casual take. Here are five new season styles to try, plus outfit inspiration on how to wear them.

Oversized

Oversized blazers are going nowhere in 2023 and for good reason. They make the perfect lightweight spring alternative to a denim jacket or utility shacket. To stop the volume of an oversized blazer swamping your frame, layer over cropped knits and form-fitting silhouettes to make the fit look intentional.

Brights

Herald in the new season with a bold-as-you-dare blazer. This season, acid greens and crayola blues and pinks are key colour themes. Pair with matching suit pants for a head-to-toe look, or team with black wide-leg for a sharp work silhouette.

Checks

Tweed and checks are another blazer staple that have been given a 2023 revamp – think Diana Princess of Wales circa 1990 and opt for a longer-line blazer worn in a preppy way with shirts or rollnecks, straight-leg, vintage-cut jeans and a statement belt for true Di vibes.

Unexpected Fabrics

Blazers are emerging in new and unexpected fabrics this season. Boucle is done – look for denims and leathers for a fresh take on the classic blazer silhouette.

Power Shoulders

If the boxy proportions of an oversized blazer are not for you, you’re in luck. This season the ‘hourglass’ blazer is having a moment: think power shoulders with a nipped-in waist that give all the right angles and curves.
