There was a time when white jeans were a sure-fire signifier of one of two things: the Sloane Ranger, who routinely paired them with rugby shirts or an oversized blazer, as demonstrated with dashing flair by Princess Diana. Or a kind of Euro glamour, whose sporters routinely team theirs with oversized sunglasses, fitted shirts/T-shirts/halternecks and heels, as adopted by Elizabeth Hurley since the 1990s.

Today, though, the white jean, which has typically cleaved close to the skinny silhouette, has a broader appeal, with wider, slouchier and cropped cuts popping up all over the place. Whichever you plump for, they feel fresh and seasonal, while also keeping legs warm for the vagaries of the typical British summer. We like ours wide, slightly cropped and teamed with sunglasses, espadrilles and a Breton top for all the classic tick boxes.
