The denim skirt has been one of the stand-out fashion reboots of 2023 and it shows no sign of abating. From the summer’s hip-bone skimming, 90s-distressed denims worn with bustiers and cami-tops to the arrival of inky indigos and patchwork designs to pair with cropped knits and contrasting silk shirts this autumn, it seems we are just getting started with this happy revival.
To be truly on-trend, a la Burberry and MM6 Maison Margiela’s catwalk shows, opt for ultra-maxi lengths (sure, they’re not exactly practical in autumn puddles, but they do look sublime), or instead look for clever panelling – or you could combine two trends in one with a combat-style.
To balance the volume on your bottom half, look for cropped or ribbed knits with a neater silhouette. If you’re petite and worried about being swamped, there are plenty of pencil-skirt styles and midi lengths to choose from to suit your frame.
You can also pick from a range of decades to suit your style – opt for a high-waisted A-line, button-through number for a 1970s feel or a more grungy acid-wash with frayed hems to channel your 90s rock chick.
Just like their jean counterparts, denim skirts can be dressed up or down depending on your look– pair with trainers and a casual knit by day and heeled-boots with a slinky shirt after dark. Here are 11 styles to try this autumn.
