The Christmas Express Game, £22.99
Designed for ages six and above, this jolly game – a festive take on Snakes And Ladders of sorts – tasks its players with jumping aboard The Christmas Express and making it to the North Pole before everyone else. But that’s not before trundling through a winter wonderland that is, as one might expect, strewn with hurdles (think naughty elves, reindeer crossings and snow storms) to make it to the finish line first. Buy it.
Twist & Sprout, £10
Are your humming and acting skills on point? How about your general knowledge? Well, get ready to bust out those talents, latent or otherwise, with this fun game, which is played in teams and requires you to successfully communicate what’s on the card. Part charades, part Trivial Pursuit, all fun, we like the seasonally appropriate Sprout vibe too. Buy it.
The Shakespeare Game, £25
It might not be overtly Christmassy, but if you are making merry with thespy or literary types (as well, ideally, as with a few wives of Windsor), then this game is a winner. You’ll need between two and five players, along with the imagination to be transported back to Elizabethan England, where you must make box office at as many theatres as possible before someone nicks your idea or burns down your theatre. Silly Shakespearean fun. Remember, though: no getting too competitive. After all, all’s well that ends well. Buy it.
Monopoly: The Christmas Edition, £27.95
Who doesn’t love a good game of Monopoly? It last hours and doesn’t take up too much brain power (translation: can be played after a few sherries). If you want to go full festive, opt for this edition, which swaps out the usual London landmarks for reindeer and festive treats. We like it: an old, familiar formula made all the jollier. Buy it.
Mince Spies, £6
Designed specifically for enlivening festive dinner parties, Mince Spies contains 18 coaster challenges, each of which features a secret spy mission. It’s over to the reveller to see if they can complete it without anyone guessing what on earth they are up to. Buy it.
Santa Clues, £9
Charades is a Christmas classic, and this one comes not only with clues that have a festive twist, but actually packaged up in a Santa hat. Could it be any more perfect? Buy it.
Santa Banta, £9.99
From the people who brought you Obama Llama comes Santa Banta, a game in which you must describe the rhymes on the card without saying any of the words in them. Can you convey ‘The Three Wise Men visiting Big Ben’ in the thirty allotted seconds? It’s harder – and thus more fun – than you might imagine. Buy it.
Christmas Crowd Bingo, £12
The classic game but with a Christmassy twist, Christmas Crowd Bingo is perfect for getting the whole family involved. What will be your lucky number? 5 Golden Rings? 16 Nativity Scene? Good, wholesome fun to get your festive get together going. Buy it.
Kids Vs Adults, £6.99
Pit your knowledge against that of your kids and see who comes out on top. Do you dare? Remember, they have the advantage of not having partaken of multiple mugs of mulled cider. Just saying. Buy it.
