2025 Hair Trends: The Nine Colours & Cuts To Ask For At The Salon
Big hair, pixie cut or creamy blonde: check out our trend low-down to decide.
If you’ve got a hair appointment in the diary this spring, our timely head’s up (pun intended) on the trending cuts and colours this year may steer your brief to your stylist. The good news? There is a style and a shade to suit all hair types and face shapes. Rather than being a slave to the latest ‘do, chat through inspiration pictures with your hairdresser to find the style best suited to you.
Natural Textures
Coils and curls are not a hair trend as such, but hairdressers are seeing more and more people in their chairs hoping to embrace their hair’s natural texture, opting for cuts to enhance rather than tame. If you want to let your waves loose, here are three products to give curls bounce and definition.
‘Vintage’ Cuts
The 90s are back and the minimal look has reached our locks. Blunt, poker-straight bobs are trending, cut to jaw length with no layering for maximum impact. To keep the look sleek and any pesky frizz at bay, try these styling heroes.
Fringes
Curtain bangs, wispy fringes and cool French-girl inspired ‘Birkin Bangs’ are all high on the hot list when it comes to face-framing. Universally flattering, they’re a great way of adding interest while keeping a longer-length. Lank fringes however are not de rigueur. A quick spritz of dry shampoo can help revive day-two bangs.
Big Blowouts
Glamorous, big blow-dries with volume a la the 90s supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford are the most popular request for long-hair styles. Look for styling products, like mousses and root treatments that are going to give that extra lift.
Creamy Blondes
Buttery, honey blondes inspired by Sabrina Carpenter are the hue of summer. While cool, ash blondes have been popular in recent years, warmer tones are making a comeback for some sunshine shades as the weather warms. Keep your colour looking tip-top with these colour-protecting hair washes.
Butterfly Layers
The ‘butterfly cut’ is showing no signs of dipping in popularity. Offering a softer take on choppy layers for a subtler, more feminine look, combine shorter, face-framing layers with mermaid-worthy lengths, then add in some movement with these styling tools.
Red Tones
Strawberry-toned blondes, burgundy and cherry reds are also seeing a rise in popularity on the colour charts thanks to Dua Lipa’s viral 2024 copper ‘do. If you’re not ready to commit, here are some toners and semi-permanent washes to road-test the look.
Boyish Crop
Longer than a close Pixie crop but shorter than a bob, the boyish crop has a 1920s flapper feel to it, slicked down for an androgynous look, or softer and more grown out for a feminine take. As seen on Sabrina Elba and Florence Pugh. Look for texturising putty and wet-look gels to get the look.
Boho Lengths
Probably the most low-maintenance trend this year is the boho shaggy cut; with grown out, longer layers and natural movement, it’s giving Woodstock vibes and an air-dried natural finish. The key to this look is hair that’s in tip-top condition to stop it looking unkempt. Look for deep treatment masks to keep lengths glossy and smooth.
