Established in 2013, the humorous motto of Classic Glamping is “Thou shalt not rough it”. Which should be music to the ears of even the most reluctant campers.

At Classic Glamping, they select the finest yurts, pods, shepherd huts and tents in the West Country. They make three other guarantees, too. First, you get your own bathroom at each of their properties. Second, you get your own loo. Third, you get the service of a company who always tries harder.

If you feel like an invigorating break in the wild but like your creature comforts, we suggest you check out these fantastic properties.

RUSTY THE TIN TENT

This fella used to be an old shipping container. Now he is a luxurious half tin, half tent structure that is special enough to have featured on TV (in George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces on Channel 4). Set within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Cornwall, Rusty offers as wholesome and earthy a holiday experience as it is possible to have. You use a wheelbarrow to get your kit from car to house. You spend your days with sand between your toes. You spend your night, warmed and mesmerized by the fire pit, under the stars. Need we say more?

CABINS AT ROE WOOD

In a shady Cornish wood lie a couple of timber cabins – charmingly called Foxy Loxy and Squirrel Nutkin – that offer glorious views, an inviting hot tub and total seclusion from the chaos of life. Curl up at either one and you’ll never want to come away. Plus, the more peaceful you allow yourself to be, the more likely it is that you will spot some of the enchanting wildlife that goes about its business here.

TREE TOPS CABIN

Nestling high up among the leaves near Cadgwith in Cornwall is Tree Tops Cabin, the rural retreat of dreams. Unforgettable views stretch through the floor-to-ceiling windows that face its king-sized bed. A woodburner, en suite shower, kitchenette and excellent local pub complete the fabulous picture. You will return home renewed after a break at this place.

POPPY YURT

This spacious, circular tent in Devon works as well for a romantic getaway as it does for a family holiday. Set in four-and-a-half acres of wildflower meadows and woodland, Poppy truly forces you to relax. There’s an outdoor kitchen sink, a vast gas bbq, free-range chickens scrabbling around and two tiny islands to explore. As if you needed any further enticement, Poppy’s owners provide a hamper of their homemade honey and local cheese, too.

WARLEGGAN SHEPHERDS HUTS

The Cornish town of Warleggan – home to two super-stylish shepherds huts called The Lions Den and The Witch’s Wagon – claims to have to be twinned with Narnia. Certainly, there is something fantastical about these two shepherds huts and the 12 acres of idyllic countryside that house them. Instagram will go crazy for the décor and details at this gorgeous destination.

THE HIDEAWAY

The stuff of fantasy continues at the uber comfortable Cornish pod that is The Hideaway. Fans liken it to a hobbit house but JRR Tolkien couldn’t possibly have conceived of the luxury contained within. Think arched ceilings, wooden panelling and a fresh contemporary design. There’s even an outhouse nearby with a washing machine and heating towel rail. Magic abounds.
