It's a fact, our smartphones are breeding grounds for germs, the third hand we never wash. So it makes sense, in these coronavirus times, that we keep them as clean as possible. It's a sobering thought that the average phone has 25,000 germs per square inch*, in fact dirtier than a loo seat. Why wouldn't you keep your phone as sanitised as possible anyway?

Use soap and water

Household cleaning products are abrasive and will cause damage to the phone's casing so what is the best way to clean them, whilst reducing the bacteria count? The BBC has released a short video showing how you can effectively clean your phone using just simple household soap. Watch Dr Lena Ciric, a microbiologist from University College London, as she explains what to do and how it effective it can be, all backed up by scientific evidence.

Electronic phone sanitizers

There are also electronic devices, such as PhoneSoap, that use UV-C light to kill microorganisms on both the screen and in the difficult to reach crevices of your phone. Amazon offers a selection of phone sanitizers.
