Go Softly
Updating your soft furnishings is an easy, practical, and relatively inexpensive way to refresh your living space or bedroom. To prepare for the cooler weather I recommend using heavier textured materials for your throws and cushion covers to create an inviting and snug space.
I love fabrics by GP&J Baker, whose range you can explore here, and Colefax and Fowler, whose fabrics and wallpapers are legendary, and with good reason.
Create Warmth With Colour
Colour is key when creating an interior inspired by the changing seasons. Our go-to shades for the autumn months are warm neutrals for the walls and ceilings paired with accents of mossy greens and burnt oranges for carefully selected items of furniture and furnishings, or even a bespoke headboard.
Add Texture To Your Flooring
Another simple way to embrace autumn indoors is to update your floor covering. A wood or stone floor can feel bare and uninviting as the weather turns colder, while a plush rug can make the space feel cosier. When I think of the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, it’s the neutral, natural tones and textures that immediately spring to mind, so I recommend emulating this in your choice of fabric. For instance, when selecting a rug, you might choose a herringbone or sisal design. These natural tones paired with a neutral wallcovering supply an excellent backdrop for the bolder splashes of warmer autumnal colour woven into your furniture and furnishings.
Bring The Outside In
Finally, a lovely way to add an element of autumnal beauty to your interior is to incorporate seasonal foliage into the design. This adds a lovely finishing touch and is free to do if you pick flowers from your garden.
