Look 1: Cornwall
If you want to evoke the feeling of a modern, Cornish interior, try opting for natural fibres, cool blues and lots of white. Think white-washed beams, scrubbed oak tables and all the shades of the sea in muted Farrow & Ball tones. Forget twee fisherman’s cottages; Cornwall has had a style make-over with a focus on craftsmanship, locally sourced materials and heritage makers.
Cornishware
Cornishware was created in 1924, its iconic blue and white stripes designed to evoke the blue skies and white crest of the waves of the Cornish coast. Still made in the original style (albeit now in Somerset), you can seek out vintage pieces on auction sites, or modern pieces from the original makers, TG Green. Discover more here.
Jo & Co Home
Jo & Co Home in Wadebridge, Cornwall, is a popular stop-off point for visitors looking to take a slice of Kernow home with them. The calming muted palette of soft furnishings, ceramics, rugs and furniture has a modern coastal feel, with a Scandi influence. Expect to find well-known British and global brands, as well as local independent makers – all of which you can browse here.
Nkuku
A little over the border in Devon, Nkuku creates beautiful, handmade homewares, furniture and lighting. If you’re hankering after a little of that laid-back outdoor living feel that Cornwall is so good at, its reclaimed traditional outdoor Kadai firepits are the perfect at-home set-up for S’mores. No camping required. Have a browse here.
Look 2: Ibiza
If you were lucky enough to escape to the White Isle this summer for some seriously chilled coastal escapism, imbue a little of that boho feel into your home with these globally-inspired interiors. Think woven rattan furniture, pops of fun colour and luxe textiles that feel gathered, rather than too curated.
Bohemia
Founded in Edinburgh in 2006, Bohemia is an ethical online store that sources from the makers and markets of far-flung destinations, such as Morocco, Kenya, India and Turkey to give that stylish, eclectic global look that is synonymous with Ibiza. Layer pom-pom cushions and throws with woven baskets and embroidered leather pouffes for a wanderlust, boho home.
French Connection Home
For affordable on-trend interiors, French Connection Home is a great destination for boho styling – with its print rugs, cane and wood furniture and rustic luxe ceramics – to get that Ibiza look. Each season it has a range of print collections and colour palettes that make hanging a room together fool-proof. Simply add vintage finds, personal treasures – from art to travel mementos – for a laid-back Ibizan vibe.
Zara Home
Zara, another high-street favourite, is a great destination if you’re looking to create a luxe, boho look using natural materials – from sun-washed linens, to dip-dyed textiles in all the tones of the sea. Great for coloured glassware, wooden serving boards and woven jute rugs for a taste of the bare-foot, luxe side of the Balearic isle.
Look 3: New England
If you’re looking for a more elegant, timeless feel to your coastal theme, take inspiration from New England. On the USA’s east coast, the windswept beaches, clapboard beach houses and chic summer retreats offer a more refined than rustic approach to nautical – layering heirloom antiques, smart navy and sea blues all over a backdrop of signature tongue and groove.
The White Company
As the name suggests, The White Company is a great go-to to create that signature white-washed New England look, from limed oak furniture to white woven baskets, crisp linens and neutral knit throws. The perfect building blocks to create your Hamptons look home are all here; layer up with antiques, nautical references and a few blue tones in your artwork and soft furnishings to add personality and depth to your design.
Oka
From its statement driftwood dining table to its rattan furniture, hurricane lamps and smart striped soft furnishings, Oka offers a grown-up slant on coastal interiors. With its calm palette and beautiful materials, it proves that that hankered-after sense of pure escapism can be found closer to home.
Cox and Cox
Another great destination if you prefer your nautical look pared back and chic is Cox & Cox. Perfect for creating an outdoor living space – which is to say what coastal living is all about – it has a range of rattan furniture, firepits, lighting and jute rugs to create a welcoming New England porch feel.
