Is there an item that speaks so eloquently of summer as the simple straw hat? It’s a sartorial shorthand for languid, lazy, hazy days on unhurried river walks; for sundown parades by gently lapping shorelines; and for sipping glasses of cold rose over very long lunches under the sun.

Well, lockdown may have put paid to much of that this year. But if you are able to get outside at all – in the garden, on the balcony or on a walk round the block – there’s no reason to neglect your usual standards of summer style.
