Spiced Chocolate Orange Date Balls Recipe
Makes 20
Ingredients
12 Medjool dates, chopped
100g toasted hazelnuts
2 tbsp raw cacao powder
1 orange, zest and juice
½ tsp ground cinnamon
Pinch of mixed spice
100g orange-flavoured dark chocolate, melted and cooled
Edible spray glitter (optional)
Method
1. Line a baking sheet with baking paper. Put the chopped dates, hazelnuts, cacao powder, orange juice and zest, and spices into a food processor and whizz until fully combined. Pinch off walnut-sized pieces of mixture and roll into small balls. Stick a cocktail stick into each ball, stand on the baking tray and chill for half an hour.
2. Remove from the fridge, dip into the melted chocolate, shaking off any excess, then pop back in the fridge to set.
3. Just before serving, take out the cocktail sticks and spray with a little edible gold glitter spray.
Wellbeing Wisdom
The higher the percentage of cocoa solids in a bar, the healthier it is as it will contain more flavonoids, so always choose dark chocolate with at least 70 per cent cocoa solids or above. Studies show that flavonoids can lower blood pressure and so are beneficial to our cardiovascular health.
