That ‘makeup has power inside and out’ has been Trish McEvoy’s abiding motto since she started out in 1995. In her case, it has certainly held true. By the age of 30, she had built a multi-million dollar business, garnered a legion of fans on either side of the Atlantic and beyond – all of them subscribers to her onus on natural makeup – and penned the best-selling book, The Power of Makeup: Look Your Best at Any Age (2006), as well as a follow-up titled the Makeup of a Confident Woman: The Science of Beauty, the Gift of Time, and the Power of Putting Your Best Face Forward (2017).

Here she shares with us her online haunts; why’s she connected every minute of the day; and how, in her book, narcissism is never a good look.

My favourite website...

TrishMcEvoy.com of course! We recently relaunched our site and I am so proud of the hard work my team put into creating such a beautiful online destination.

My favourite app...

I can’t name one app because I have such diversified interests. First and foremost, I LOVE Instagram. It’s where I can communicate with my customers and also love using it to find new inspiration. I love any app that is committed to wellness. The FitBit app has always been a favourite of mine to track my daily activity, but my newest favourite is The Sculpt Society. It allows you to bring Megan Roup’s dance cardio and sculpting work outs home. And when I need variety, I go to Obe. Megan is on there, too. I really love it! I love Spotify for music and Audible for books - to help me wind down at the end of the day.

My favourite blog...

I love reading Refinery29 and Into the Gloss to learn more about new trends in the ever-evolving beauty landscape.

TRISH MCEVOY 2020

My Internet hero...

Into the Gloss for sure. They bring such a wealth of beauty knowledge to the table.

My favourite podcast...

How could you pick just one? I think my latest is How I Built This on NPR. It makes you appreciate brand stories so much more deeply. I also love The Beauty Brains. It’s scientists explaining beauty and is so fascinating.

My favourite YouTuber...

Just like with Podcasts, I can’t only pick one! Too many moods, too many choices.

My most recent buy online...

I recently splurged on the Dyson Corrale Straightener and couldn’t love it more. As someone who styles her hair daily, I always look for ways to cut down on heat damage. The Dyson Corrale uses flexing plates to help better gather hair, which cuts down on breakage by 50 per cent! I’ve really noticed a difference.

Last book you downloaded or read...

Andrew Morton’s Wallis In Love and Maureen Chiquet’s Beyond the Label.

Favourite tweeter...

Too many to choose from!

Favourite Instagrammer...

Dear Annabelle. It’s my niece Marcie’s stationery company. She shares not only her stationery, but tablescapes and flower design, which I find so uplifting, warm, and inspirational.

Favourite tech gadget...

My iPhone. I use it almost every second of the day. Between tracking my steps with FitBit or using FaceTime to stay connected with my friends, family, and team - I’d be lost without it.

The most useful gadget on your desk...

Again, my phone! Whether it be via text, e-mail, or FaceTime, it’s the tool I go to stay connected.

First thing/app you look at on your mobile when you wake up/in the morning...

I start by morning by reading through text messages and e-mail so I am prepared for my team call at 9 a.m. I also always do a full sweep on Instagram for inspiration for the day ahead. I love finding quotes, music, and brands and sharing them with my friends and team.

The last thing you binge-watched...

Love Life on HBO. It’s about dating and love in New York City—it’s so real!

Brands have you discovered online...

Lewis Miller. He is the most fabulous florist and visionary. I also found Hill House by Nell Diamond. My most recent discovery is Bill Schutz, the most unbelievable cake maker you’ve ever seen. You must follow him: @creative_cake_ny.

Social media allowed me to meet...

Trish McEvoy consumers, new and old! It is a community that is so near and dear to my heart, and social media has allowed me to interact with them in ways I never could before.

The best digital advice I've been given...

Use your time wisely, enjoy, monitor, and limit your digital time.

My screensaver is...

My letter from my husband.

My standout online memory...

The day we launched my digital storefront, Trish McEvoy.com!

My pet online hate is...

Narcissism.

Do you have any online rules?

I always do my best to get exercise either in the morning or the evening (sometimes both) where I can unplug, exhale and let my mind roam free.

As someone who runs a business at least in part online, what are your best bits of advice/ most interesting things you’ve learned?

The most interesting things I have learned are how quickly the world changes, especially online. As a result, it is so very important to keep a pulse on these changes and adapt, all while maintaining a strong, individual voice.
