You can’t move for sumptuous velvet furniture in fashionable homes and restaurants at the moment. Here, we celebrate the interiors trend of the year.

Interiors trends come and go but our taste for velvet seems to be sticking around. It is comforting and luxurious and works as well in rich colours like forest green as it does in lighter shades like pink.

Trend forecaster WGSN reports that the number of searches for velvet has risen by 400% in 2018. Meanwhile, Kris Manalo, senior buyer for Heal’s, told the Telegraph: “The demand for velvet upholstery skyrocketed in 2017, and it will continue to be the fabric of choice for soft furnishings in 2018.”

The good news is that all of the most stylish furniture sites have velvet in their repertoire right now. Here are five of the best.

MADE

Sofas, cushions, bedsteads, dining chairs – you name, MADE does it in velvet. The cleverest item in the roster, though, is the space-saving Haru Single Sofa Bed. We will take ours in Pine Green but you have eight handsome colours to choose from.

AUDENZA

A homewares brand that sells “stylish living for the fabulous and fearless” is bound to incorporate velvet beautifully into its offering. With its brass and mango wood legs, Audenza’s Sienna Teal Velvet Shell Chair is a total winner. All you need is a martini to go with it…

OLIVER BONAS

This British label has been bringing us fresh, inspirational design since 1993. They cottoned on to the velvet vibe some time ago. Their velvet chairs, footstools and sofas – complete with piping and button details – are handmade in Nottinghamshire, and their frames are guaranteed for 25 years. Give us a Le Cocktail Velvet chair in Dove any day.

SOHO HOME

It comes as no surprise that the brand with the Midas touch gets the velvet trend just right. It has featured in their various Houses for years, and is now available in several guises to buy on their shopping site. If money were no object, we’d go for the Rivas Beadstead in Hunter Green Velvet.

ROSE & GREY

From pouffes and lamps to sofas and easy chairs, Rose & Grey gives great velvet. Its Mabel Velvet Sofa comes in a staggering 16 different colours of the tactile fabric. Our pick of the crop, however, is the Velvet Halas Dining Chair. Available in eight colours, this mid-century modern seat is a far-too-well-kept secret.
